Urgent Diaper Relief for Infants & Toddlers
Packages of Food
At every chance we get, we put together food packages with the most nutritious food available at that moment. Sometimes this means we are able to include vegetables and fruit, and sometimes we are not able. We always focus on giving food first and foremost to the families who are in most dire and urgent need (as in, they do not have assistance from others, and are starving or malnourished or ill). To the right, you can see Mohammed putting food packages together, along with his tiny, trusty assistants, his children, Maryam and Ahmed. You can also hear the surveilling drones, a constant, constant accompaniment to life in Gaza. (Here you can listen to a music teacher in Gaza sing with his students to the sound of the drones~a beautiful-fierce act of resistance and dignity.)
We have been working since the beginning of August, 2025, to give away diapers to babies and families that need them so much.
We know that many of you may be immediately wondering why we are focused on providing diapers when all that you see on social media and the news is about the famine, starvation, and extreme lack of food. There are a few answers to that:
We continue to buy as much food for people as we are able, and we won’t stop doing this. There is very little food to be bought, but we will continue to search for it and get it to the people who need it the very most.
Without diapers, babies' health prospects are dire. They have very high chances of developing skin rashes, urinary tract infections, fungal infections, bacterial infections, and more serious diseases. In a context where there are no functioning hospitals or doctors offices, no access to consistently sanitary conditions even inside a home, and no consistent access to food and water, infections and diseases in babies can kill them. Diapers aren't some luxury item.
The price for a pack of diapers in Gaza before October 2023 was $5 (so much cheaper than in America!). The price for a pack of diapers these days in Gaza is about $60-$73. Mohammed was actually able to get a deal for $53/pack recently, and he bought a number of packs. But now he isn't able to find anything lower than $60-$73, and he says that the prices are rising higher by the minute.
This is an ongoing project, and Mohammed works on it constantly as he has time, ability, energy, and safety for himself and his family.
